Okay, Soldiers - Drop and give me 20!  Today is the first day of Creativity Boot Camp.  I am excited and ready to flex my Creative Muscles.  Obviously, I selected Photography as my artistic medium.  Chris would probably be happier if I selected the Pedal Harp instead.  My harp playing time has been almost none existent since I starting taking pictures again.   I have taken a few pictures of it though.

Last night, photographer friend Chris Davis asked me about the software I use for editing.  When I told her that I use Lightroom 3, she stated that she thought it was used for photographers that shot in RAW verses Jpeg.  So I had a thought... hmmm... I am going to use these 2 weeks of Boot Camp to push my photography to a new level.  I will shot in RAW* only.  That will be my chosen medium - RAW phtotography with a bit more emphasis on Photoshop Actions and such. So here I go...

You can read today's complete writing assignment on the CBC website.  We have to write a letter to our future self with the understanding that everything we dream has come true.  When told of the assignment, my husband said... "Dear Self, Please pack your desk and leave. You will be escorted to the door. " Yes, HE is a dreamer. We are self employed so that is an option I guess. :)

Today's Random Word Prompt is "Ivory."

As Chris and I drove around doing errands, I thought of all things "Ivory."   In my mind's eye, I picture crocheted doilies, my wedding pearls, antique lace, soft baby yarn, shabby chic furniture, piano keys, Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson crooning "Ebony & Ivory", sweet cupcake frosting, elephant tusks for those literal minded, Ivory face soap, etc.  But in the end, I chose one of my  beautiful lacey English Creamware tea cups and cutwork saucers.  They are so lovely and make every cup of tea feel like I am having "High Tea" at Harrods.

* For the non-geeks:  RAW file format is the uncompressed, unprocessed data file captured by the camera's image sensor, before any in-camera processing has been applied.   In this sense, an image saved in the RAW file format is the digital equivalent to the exposed but as yet unprocessed film negative.  In fact, the camera will ignore your white balance, sharpening, contrast and saturation settings.

So....I just saw! How was "going RAW?" I had no idea they have Lightroom 3....all I knew about was Lightroom 2. Sigh...there is always a new gadget on the horizon, isn't there!

Love the doily-like cup and saucer.

Didn't really see a big difference. I did add a Florabella action to this. I tend to like crisp and sharp. This hazy look that is popular is outside my comfort level but I think it looks soft and relaxing. Go to Adobe and download the Lightroom 3 beta download for free. ♥ Love it!! ♥

Your Bootcamp photo is lovely! I found you from the comments. I am doing embroidery hoops for my new shop (though you'll see only the very beginnings here): http://themakingsofeveryday.blogspot.com/2010/06/creativity-bootcamp-ivory.html

Great shots, both of them. That is certainly a beautiful cup & saucer set. They look especially pretty against the wood table. Well done.

oooo, you're raising the bar! Maybe on a day when I have more time to spend on the assignment, I'll shoot raw as well. My husband says the only reason to shoot raw is so you have the ability to really tinker with the exposure levels and contrast in your photos - helpful if lighting conditions weren't optimum when taking the photograph.

Love your tea cup!

Oh these are really lovely! I love how you composed and processed them :)
I have been shooting RAW this whole year as part of my 365 project. Sometimes I don't see the difference and then others I am so happy I did. There is so much more to work with, and it is helpful if you mess up the exposure (I am only shooting in manual as well, so RAW definitely helps)
Can't wait to see what else you come up with at boot camp!

I don't even like tea, and I feel like drinking a cup after seeing your photos. Going RAW is always going brave!

Ooooh you're going to love shooting in raw. I didn't see a difference at first either, and wondered what all of the fuss was about. Then after a few weeks, I was trying to grab a shot one day and flipped to an auto setting to see how the 'camera' thought it should be shot. I didn't go back to raw when I went back on manual. Opened my shots later in lightroom and omg .. ick. The difference between the jpg and raw were all right there. And the jpgs were much much harder to fix.
You'll enjoy it ;)
This shot? Is gorgeous. What a beautiful teacup and saucer and the tones are beautiful :)
